Fall Weekend Getaway (feat. Gwynnie Bee)

Last weekend I got to head over to Lancaster, Pennsylvania with two friends and my mother. A retreat of sorts, it was a trip I wasn’t expecting to go on until my mentor casually mentioned that she had purchased my ticket because I deserved to take some time to unwind. (I truly really am blessed with some great friends.) I had to travel light so I looked to Gwynnie Bee to help me make a decision as to what to pack. Gwynnie Bee is a subscription box service that allows you to try different styles and brands for an affordable rental fee.  For my first box I got these two beautiful printed dresses that were just perfect for the occasion especially since they both go well with my favorite crossbody satchel.

Day 1-  Pennsylvania Dutch Country Sightseeing and Shopping

One we entered Pennsylvania our first stop was Kitchen Kettle Village. A very picturesque countryside attraction with small shops and restaurants,  I got to sample authentic Amish jams, and window shop scented candles, soap, hand-carved signs, handmade quilts, and leather goods. I totally missed my chance to take a buggy ride tour of the nearby Amish farms, but I guess there’s always next time.

20160930_130044This Hemant & Nandita print A-line dress is meant to be worn in the summer yet when paired with a turtleneck or denim jacket, can easily be worn during these early fall days when the temps are just beginning to drop into the mid-60s.  The pattern and colors are stunning in person so I highlighted this with black tights and boots. (Style notes: I would suggest either sizing down or wearing this dress with a belt because it runs a bit large. As it is not lined I wore a slip underneath, this helped with the static, but it did cause the dress to twist on occasion.)20160930_13023120160930_132808edited220160930_130229

Day 2 – Pool-side Relaxing and Formal Evening Banquet Dinner

I  spent most of the second day away from social media and my phone. My friends and I took advantage of this free time relaxing, taking in the fresh fall air and loving the whirlpool the hotel. Ah the bubbles! Anyway, part of our trip included a formal banquet dinner which meant that everyone in attendance had to “dress to impress.” I very seldom attend formal events, to the point that the only gowns I own are those that I wore to my sweet sixteen and high school prom. And while I did want to look my best, I didn’t have the means to go buy a new evening gown so I resorted to using pieces that I already owned. I dug into my closet to find something that I could wear and picked these pieces literally a couple of hours before I had to leave, not even knowing if it would look anything like I had in mind. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well it all looked together. Clearly, you can never go wrong with basic black, a pop of color and some metallic accents. This taffeta high-low skirt is such a standout piece that worked so well to give me elegance, where my floral fishnet stockings gave me some chic edge. Considering the amount of compliments I got while walking through the resort lobby, this look is definitely worth repeating.

Day 3 – Outlet Shopping Vamp Slay

On our final day in Lancaster we headed over to Tanger Outlets for some shopping. I didn’t buy anything though I did manage to convince my friend to buy a Coach bag that was on sale for 70% off. Seriously, where else are you going to find a deal like that? Anyway, I left the best look for last with this City Chic Tunic Dress. I have been eyeing this dress style for a while and I was so happy that I got to finally try it for myself. It is such a unique silhouette formed by pleats and slouchy pockets, that works well for any body type. The floral print is absolutely beautiful and it received a lot of compliments from fellow outlet shoppers.  The V-neck is low so cleavage is inevitable as such this dress is better suited for a day out with friends or maybe even a date. As I write this I am looking at my bank account trying to see if I can afford to buy this piece because I can’t seem to let go of it. (Style note: I’m wearing my new Curvy Couture Lace T-shirt bra under this dress)

This weekend trip was a great way to start the fall. It was a much needed break from everything. I came back rejuvenated and I learned that you really don’t have to go too far for a nice getaway, just visiting a town you’ve never been to is one way to fill your days with some fun and adventure.

Also, if you haven’t tried Gwynnie Bee yet I really encourage you to give it a try.
