It’s that time of year again – Full Figured Fashion Week! Considering how much fun last year was I simply had to make the effort and attend this year as well. So just like last year I’m sharing this experience with all of you as  I will be recapping the events of the week here on the blog as well as sharing my outfits for each day. Here’s to FFFWeek 2017!

Day 1 –  Rooftop Summer Fun

This year the festivities kicked off with a Curvy Music, Film and Art Festival.  With live music on the roof,  a screening of the PLUS! documentary by Sandra Chum and Kalisha Whitman and a showcase of curvy art, it was an afternoon well spent celebrating all things curvy and chic.

I did spend most of the afternoon with fellow influncer and my super talented friend, Jonquel. I love watching her work on illustrations live.

This view just seemed to go on forever with the clear skies.

As for fashion, ladies were all encouraged to wear pastel summer sundresses  and men were to come in linen button downs and shorts to keep in the theme of summer fun.  Most of my summer dresses tend to be on the much brighter-side when it comes to color so I ended up having to do some shopping for my look for this event.  I headed down to the mall with my best friend and after she shot down my original dress choice,  we entered Torrid to find something more in my style.  We found this pink bell sleeve floral print fit and flare dress.  Overall it was a great choice as it was feminine with a hint of edge given the crisscrossing lattice straps on the back (not pictured). The material is so light -weight that it helped me keep cool even in the humid 92 degree heat even with the sleeves so if you’re looking for a summer dress that isn’t sleeveless I highly recommend this one. I completed the look with my taupe beaded gladiator sandals.

Day 2 – Networking and Learning

Whether you are a blogger, a model, a small business owner or simply someone who works in a creative space, nothing is more important than your personal brand which is why I was so thankful for the “Best Practices for Brand Protection” panel event. This discussion educated all of us in attendance regarding what we need to keep our work protected through trademarks, copyrights, and contracts. The biggest take-away I left with had to do with the five exclusive rights protected by copyright which stipulates that no one has the right to duplicate, revise, distribute, perform or display anything that you insure so it is best to get yourself and your brand covered as best you can.

This heat wave has really made me rethink most of the outfits I had set aside for the week. I’m the kind of person that literally can’t take the heat (which is funny considering my family is from the Caribbean) so I have to dress accordingly so I don’t pass out or something . For this look I just played with my favorite floral skirt from this past winter, dressing it down with a light pink cotton top, black bow belt and gladiator sandals. I really love how simply swapping some pieces can totally change a look and help it transition to a totally different season.
