Earlier this month I managed to convince my mother to drive me and a friend to New Jersey for the Ashley Stewart sample sale, (3 items for $10? I couldn’t pass that up!) and I am so glad I did, as not only were my “partners-in-crime” able to get a full bag of clothes and shoes, but my mother found me this great spring top amidst the massive maze that made up the sale. From the lace up front and crochet detailing to the ruffle cuff bell sleeves, it really brings the drama as it’s product name implies.
My favorite thing about this new addition to my wardrobe is its versatility, due to the fact that it is made of gauze fabric so it can easily transition into summer even with the long sleeves. Considering the fact that it is meant to be an airy top, you may want to size down if you prefer a more fitted look, though I sized up for a laid-back and relaxed feel. I paired it with my cuffed boyfriend jeans, rolled up to capri length, and red print flats which I rediscovered recently during my annual spring closet sweep last week.

My Current (Affordable) Spring Favorites
While I continue to write the finishing touches for upcoming installments of +Size Matters, I decided to share some of my favorite pieces from various plus size spring collections online. I got to say that I am really loving the coral and mint colors that are clearly this seasons favorites as well as the new takes on some old prints and textures like florals, denim, crochet and chambray. The best part about this list is that these same pieces can carry over into summer be it for a day out with the family or time in the office and it is budget-friendly as everything on this list is less than $40 (minus shipping.) Happy shopping!

The Big 2 – 5 (Part 2) : Eshakti Chambray
I took advantage of the nice spring weather New York has been having this weekend to finally wear my first, and certainly not my last, purchase from eShakti. The current price tag attached to this dress is a tad on the expensive side, but I actually bought mine using the $40 gift coupon while the site was hosting a sale by which time the dress was marked down to $62 so this dress was a steal! Though I fell in love with the dress as is online, I had the dress customized to knee length which turned out to be perfect. I am petite (last time I checked I am 5’3”) so the maxi dress trend isn’t one I can really embrace for obvious reasons. Continue reading

Roll Sleeve Blouse and Quilted Skater Skirt: Fashion to Figure | Bowler bag: ALDO Accessories (similar here) | Heels: Avenue Cloudwalkers (similar here)
Even with my crazy Friday work schedule I managed to sneak in a quick trip to the Fashion to Figure office in the city for their sample sale. This was my first sample sale so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was not disappointed as I got some awesome pieces for a steal. (Fortunately I was hard pressed for time otherwise I probably would have bought everything. $10 for a Boyfriend Blazer Vest?! Mine!)
This black quilted skater skirt is the first one I’ve ever tried on and liked. It is knee length which makes it appropriate enough for work and the pockets make it both functional and practical for more casual wear. The roll sleeve blouse fits as though it was designed specifically for me. The sleeves accommodate my thick arms without any problems and the gold accents just add a level of muted sophistication that make accessorizing unnecessary.
This outfit actually came together at the sale as fellow shoppers suggested that I pair these two pieces together. If there is one thing I can say about plus size fashion events is that you meet some very nice people who genuinely love fashion as much as you do and are quick to give you tips. I recommend attending one if you can, like the Big Fat Flea or NY Curvy Closet to see for yourself. You won’t regret it.
