Sweet Like Deadly Nightshade

Fun fact: When I was growing up, my father had major aspirations of my brother and I becoming child models. Every so often he would put up a white bedsheet on one of the walls in the living room, get some props and outfits together and we’d have our own photoshoot sessions right at home. I still have the albums full of the photos including the professional ones that he had done to send to modeling agencies. Neither my brother or I ever got a modeling contract as kids (Not for lack of trying, I mean we were adorable but I guess that wasn’t enough, hahaha) but at the very least we have the memories.

At the start of quarantine last year, my brother was actually the first one to point out that I could not use the pandemic as an excuse for not continuing to take photos and create content. According to him, I’ve been “trained for in-house photoshoots” and now I even have more space to work with than we did growing up. I initially disagreed because working in one space can be pretty limiting, but in time I took up the challenge, working around issues with lightening (my apartment is intentionally dark in certain spaces) and even did some much needed furniture/decor shopping which I had put off for the last 2 years.

I’ve done quite a bit of shooting at home as a result, some of which I haven’t shared yet, but I wanted to try my hand at something “different” for this new year. So armed with my trusty tripod, selfie light, new make up, new bedding and a lux velvet set I bought as a Christmas gift to myself, I figured it was time to try something way, way outside of my comfort zone – my own boudoir shoot. 2020 Spooky & Cozy Halloween Sleepwear Picks

We’ve made it to October so you know what that means, spooky season is officially upon us!When it comes to holiday loungewear and/or pajamas I’ve noticed that it is more popular to buy specifically for the winter holidays like Christmas. Yet as most of us are spending more time at home and traditional Halloween festivities are not really an option, I figured that this may be the year that we look for more cozy spooky-wear to wear at home. So I searched the internet for some and compiled this list for anyone looking for something cute, cozy and spooky to wear while watching their favorite Halloween films on tv for the  31 Nights of Halloween. I also made sure to only include items less than $40 on this list.  Happy shopping!

Old Navy

While not plus these unisex designs from Old Navy should still fit up to a size 3X as mens sizes tend to run much bigger compared to women’s. I particularly like the bat design in the middle and can totally see myself wearing that for a zoom call or Netflix Watch Party with my friends because who doesn’t like a good pun? Hahaha.

Mix and Maxi (Featuring Dia&Co.)

Back in April I put in my order for my first Dia&Co. box and I received a beautiful windowpane print ELOQUII dress that I loved but would did not fit very well. Devastated I asked my friend, Jonquel, body positive plus size fashion illustrator of JonquelArt, if she wanted to try it on only to find that it fit her perfectly.  That particular dress was a more conservative style than what she normally wears so even though it fit her very well, we ended up sending it back anyway. Needless to say this started our semi-monthly Dia box parties. We now order our boxes around the same time so that we can go through our individual pieces together, giving our honest opinions on how things fit, providing style recommendations as well as giving each other the opportunity to try anything that interests us from the other’s box.
