Final Rays of Summer feat. JIBRI

It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the last (unofficial) weekend of summer. As someone who grew up hating the season it was great to I expected the crowning moment of the season was to be the family BBQ  at my aunt’s house in the Bronx, but it was actually rained out this year. The weekend wasn’t a total lost though since I did get to spend time with the family, playing video games, watching Netflix and going through old photo albums. Even though I had a great time sadly the one thing that did end up being left out was my final summer look that I had intentionally left for last as I wanted to make an entrance to the BBQ. Most of my family isn’t exactly body positive so I like to “give them something to talk about” with my outfits whenever I can and I figured it would be great to do that this year was with some JIBRI.

The party don’t start until I come in, lol!

If there is one plus size indie brand that I love its JIBRI. Yes, most , if not all of what she carries in her online store is out of my budget, however, this is a brand that  breaks all the plus size fashion “rules” with great class and style. Plus everything is handmade!

So of course when I saw the announcement that there would be a JIBRI pop up shop in NYC during Full Figured Fashion Week I simply had to travel down to the city to meet the designer, Jasmine and shop the collection. It was totally worth it as not only did I get to shop JIBRI in person, but also get measured by the designer herself so I now know what size to buy moving forward. The pop up shop included pieces from past and present collections along with some samples. I was overwhelmed but I made sure to at least leave with one showstopping outfit.

After trying on these two pieces together at the pop up shop I knew that I would be pairing them for the blog. This crop definitely makes a statement with the shoulder ruffle and exaggerated puff sleeves. Paired with these cobalt blue high waist shorts I’m able to show a tasteful amount of skin and with the elastic waist I have the option of pulling it down for a more conservative look.

The shorts with the high-waist is reminiscent of a skater skirt and is just as comfortable. The best part is that it doesn’t roll down even when you sit down which makes me wish that there were more available in different colors and prints. I know I would save up to at least have one more in my closet for next summer.  This is a impulsive splurge that I honestly do not regret because I know I will be using both of these statement pieces to make an entrance again very soon.

So here’s to summer 2017 : Bold colors, crop tops, maxis and rompers. This season will go down as the one that really got me out of my comfort zone. I can’t wait to see what next summer holds. Now on to my favorite season – Fall!

How was your summer? Was there an outfit or trend that you tried this season that was a step out of your comfort zone?
