Rated M for Morbid & Macabre

For the second year in a row, I have spent Hallo-week with my bestie, Brooke, in Baltimore. In an earlier visit a few years back, I had managed to convince her to take me to the Edgar Allen Poe House and Museum, but that visit was fairly short due to the fact that both she and her daughter were majorly freaked out by the vibes the house gave. (It was pretty dark in there, so I totally understand.)

At the time, it was really cool to at least do a quick walk through, though I did have a list of other Poe-related things I wanted to check out, mainly Poe’s graves (yes, that’s graves plural) and a few other sites inspired by his work, including the Annabel Lee Tavern. Fast forward two years, and we finally got to do just that. While I have read most of his stories, I’m more of a fan of Poe’s poetry, having committed quite a few to memory, including “A Dream Within a Dream,” as well as the first couple verses from both “The Raven” and “The Bells.” I honestly think that the melancholy that can be found there, within themes of death, regret, and lost love, ultimately played a major role in the development of my music taste, but that’s a subject for another post.

Anyway, this eatery and bar is named after his final poem, which was published just two days after his death. They serve both drinks and dishes, some of which pay homage to the prolific writer with their names, such as the “Tell Tale Fried Chicken” and the “Morbid Rumination” cocktail. The aesthetics were clearly defined, so I felt the occasion called for an outfit that would match the vibes, which led me to pull out this witchy-print cape top I had ordered over the spring.

This is the second piece I’ve gotten from Cosmic Drifters, and admittedly, I’ve been keeping it deep in my closet as it’s a step out of my comfort zone. I had gotten it because Cosmic Drifters had announced that they would be closing their made-to-order collections, and I wanted to be sure that I got my hands on at least one other piece before I couldn’t do so. I also got the matching skirt, with the idea being that I would wear them both as a set, though sadly, it is a bit snug at the moment, which is why I opted to go with a pair of high-waist jeans instead. I also kept accessories to a minimum to keep focus on the print of this top. Considering the number of compliments I received during the night, this was ultimately the best decision. Hands down best Hallo-week ever!

**Calypso 90s Cape Top – Travelling Carnival Print (UK 22) | Cosmic Drifters
KIRKLAND Signature High-Rise Skinny Jean  (Size 16) | Costco
Combat Boots | Torrid (old, similar here)

**Style note: This top is chiffon and doesn’t stretch, however, it is pretty roomy so I could have sized down. I’m currently considering getting this taken in a bit.  That being said, if witchy inspired outfits are something you’re looking for, be sure to check out Cosmic Drifters as they still have a print-on-demand collection consisting of activewear, swimwear and loungewear . All of which are available up to a size 3XL!  Also give their socials a follow as they sometimes do limited releases of their made-to-order pieces.

Are you a fan of Edgar Allen Poe too?

Are there any spooky and witchy styles that you’re loving at the moment?
