My 2016 Affordable Prom Picks

Here are my picks for the 2016 Prom season. All of these are within my affordability rules, being less than $200. I made sure to include a variety of retailers, dress lengths, and silhouettes so that everyone has options. I strongly believe that prom is a time to make a statement, which is why I included styles that wouldn’t normally be associated with prom. No matter what you decide, choose what works best for you and more importantly what makes you feel amazing. Happy shopping!❤

A Touch of Pink V-day Glam

As promised here are two more Valentine’s looks. Both looks feature this fuchsia pleated high-low taffeta skirt from Rainbow. Admittedly, Rainbow is a hit or miss as the quality is not consistent and leaves much to be desired, yet last week I was pleasantly surprised to find this well-made piece of formal wear for only $10!  The bold color alone makes a powerful statement, great for that special evening out, be it with your significant other or friends. It is just so elegant and chic that you can’t help but twirl around once you put it on. Take a look.

Look #1: Girly Edge

Turtle necks and Valentine’s day date to some may seem to be a major contradiction, yet it is truly an effortless way to elevate casual style. This combination of the monochrome jersey fabric stripped turtle neck and fuchsia is a subtle move away from the “traditional” V-day fashion as the colors lean more towards the everyday.  I should note that the turtle neck is very lightweight so it really won’t be much help in keeping you warm though it does give a very stylish silhouette. I kept accessories to a minimum with a vintage gold-tone chain shoulder strap clutch and bow front skinny belt. I can totally see myself wearing this outfit to a dinner out with the girls on Galentine’s Day.

Style notes: Bold color and stripes in the same outfit? I must say breaking two plus size fashion rules at the same time is very gratifying.

Holiday Lace & Tulle

Growing up I idolized ballerinas and figure skaters for what they were able to do and their bravery to do it with everyone watching. Now that I think about it, this is probably why I gravitate so much to skater skirts and dresses as a way to emulate confidence. Never-mind the fact  that I have never learned how to ice skate or pirouette, I’m wearing a tutu ergo I am a ballerina! In all seriousness, the tulle skirt is really something that I have been silently coveting for a while now and I am so happy that I was finally able to purchase one without breaking the bank. That’s right, this tulle skirt is only $20!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram know that back in November I was having difficulty choosing between the black or blush pleated A-line skirt from Forever 21+  and it was this lace trim sweater that helped me finally make a decision.  A 2010 Christmas present from my mother, this was a piece I couldn’t figure out how to wear. Pencil skirts and trousers didn’t seem to give the cinched bell lace sleeves justice because it had this muted feminine elegance that called for something more dramatic to be paired with it, so you can imagine how happy I was to finally find something that just worked so well. I must say that even with the inexpensive the price tag, the quality of this tulle skirt is so good, it won’t fall apart after just wearing it once or look unfinished and the material does not give the air of “cheap.” It truly is a must have piece for your wardrobe as it is so versatile,  and when styled right can easily transition from casual to party ready.

Style Notes: Unfortunately this sweater is no longer available, but I did manage to find some interesting and affordable tops that would definitely compliment this skirt in a similar way for any upcoming holiday social events you may have this month.

The Big 2 – 5 (Part 1)

So this weekend I turn 25 and  I figured it would be fitting to have some fun with my pre-birthday church outfit. For a while now I have been on the hunt for a white top for a “en blanc” event this month and found this body suit from Fashion to Figure. Since its ivory it doesn’t fit the bill for that event but I bought it anyway because I loved the style and fit. This is the first time I have ever worn a body suit and I can say that having tried it, I will definitely be wearing another one very soon. (I can’t begin to explain how comfortable and stylish this piece is!) Continue reading
