So this past Sunday was the release of yet another of Targets designer capsule collection, this time by Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice from the Spice Girls. I’ll admit that while I am a 90’s kid I was never was into the Spice Girls so the excitement that most of my friends went through but with all of the hype on social media about the designs also being launched in plus I just had to check it out for myself at my local Target. When the 5-Year Plan is No Where to Be Seen

Since graduating from college there as been one question that I’ve been faced with, whether at  family events or networking receptions and of course job interviews. That question being,  “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?/What is your five year plan?”. In retrospect this is an absurd question as everyone’s  path meanders, sometimes even far away from what you initially studied in college and/or graduate school, especially in this day and age. It then should come as no surprise that one can easily begin to dread this question when you really have no answer.

My daily planners for the last 5 years, (the gold one on the far right is my current planner) each distinct and full of different projects and plans based on that period in my life.

Wrapping Up Winter & Springing Forward

Much like every other season in NYC, Spring is unpredictable going from warm to cold to rainy and back all in the course of an afternoon which makes layering all the more necessary. For this reason, if there is one must-have addition to your daily style that I truly believe is worthy of a splurge it is a statement layering piece as it is a great help in creating endless outfit possibilities. As someone with a very small budget, I am selective when it comes to these kinds of purchases, leaning more towards colorful pieces due to my primarily monochromatic wardrobe, however nothing beats a nice neutral with a twist like this Yona New York wrap shawl.

Slay Sista Slay

Happy Women’s History Month!  Having spent five years volunteering with a NYC-based women’s empowerment non profit, I can truly say that there is nothing more powerful than when women come together to advocate for the rights and advancement of other women. It is a notion that deserves to be celebrated and explored through various platforms of discussion. For this reason I’m hoping to cover topics relevant to female empowerment on the blog such as budgeting, the significance of creating a personal brand, as well as making time for self-love all through what is left of this month.  Of course fashion will still be featured,  including my final winter look for this season and some early spring looks that I’m excited to finally share, as it is a significant way we can empower each other, however, such self-expression is only one part of our experience as women.   Continue reading →

Q & A With Journalist & “The Souls of Black Girls” Documentary Producer, Daphne Valerius

thesoulsofblackgirlsLast November I had the privilege of attending a screening of a documentary involving the representation of black women in media entitled, “The Souls of Black girls.” Featuring Regina King, Jada Pinkett-Smith, the late Gwen Ifill,  and Rapper Chuck D to name a few, this film presented hard truths that are often ignored even now, ten years after it was first produced. The screening and the discussion that followed left me wanting more, so I reached out to the creator and producer, Daphne Valerius for some insights as to her film and the planned sequel that is in the works.
