CHRISTMAS SHOPPING GUIDE : EVERYDAY FANGIRL CHIC (PART 2)

Last week I shared with you my very first Christmas shopping guide that dealt with shopping for anime/manga fangirl and now this second list focuses more on Western fandoms, particularly animation, video games and comics, though I did include a couple live action films . Much like my first gift guide, some of the items listed are direct references to certain fandoms, with the rest being pieces that are much more subtle.  I’ve also included some commentary as how they can be used or styled for everyday use.  In an effort to remain budget friendly I made sure to list items that are  $60 and under, minus shipping though many retailers seem to now be offering free shipping due to holiday rush so that cost shouldn’t be as bad as it usually is. Happy shopping!

Tied with a Red Bow

In my family dressing up is primarily reserved for two major holidays, Easter and Christmas day. Its a tradition that is easily traceable in the family albums and continues to this day. (Though thankfully my brother and I do not dress the same anymore…at least not on purpose.) Recently I turned to these albums to get me into the Christmas mood, but I ended up getting some holiday fashion inspiration from my younger self instead. So for this second holiday look, I aged up one of my favorite childhood holiday outfits.

Christmas 1994

First I replaced the ruffled white blouse with this striped off the shoulder ribbed sweater.  My favorite things about this sweater is the fact that not only can it be dressed up or down, but  it is thick enough to keep you warm while yet also light enough that you won’t over heat while singing keyboard karaoke at your office party. What you can’t see too well in the above photo is the gold medallion on the toe of my Mary Janes, but I made sure to incorporate that into this look as well with a thin gold belt. I also traded up to my suede wedges that  gave me the height and sophistication that  I wanted. 20161213_095341

Christmas Shopping Guide : Everyday Fangirl Chic (Part 1)

It’s no secret that I am a huge anime, manga, and comic fangirl. Now as an adult, and an emerging professional in a very serious field I have found it difficult to express this interest within my daily life, though not impossible. I should point out that I have no shame, I am very upfront about the things I enjoy, however, even I know that going to work in full cosplay is not exactly something you can get away with at work. With the holiday season now upon us I thought it would be nice to start my gift guide series with some geek-chic. Whether you’re shopping for a friend or just looking to treat yourself, here are just a few affordable fangirl gifts that also are chic enough for everyday use. Happy shopping!

Note: For  this list I decided to focus on anime and manga fandoms but the upcoming second part to this guide will include pop culture, western animation and video game fandoms.

Compact Beauty Mirrors & Makeup

Earlier this year I shared a look that I based around a Sailor Moon compact that I always carry with me in my small makeup bag. Everyone needs a beauty makeup mirror so why not have one that combines fandom with beauty. (The Cosmic Heart and Crystal Star Compacts are also available.)

Snowflake Ballerina Holiday Glam

We’ve officially made it to December and that means its time for  holiday parties and gatherings. As someone who has a natural aversion to sequins (which tends to be very popular this time of year), I’m always looking for alternative holiday fashion. For the most part that means occasionally stepping out of the familiar seasonal fashion color spectrum of red, green, black and gold. For this look I shopped my closet for a blouse that would go well with this chiffon pleated skirt from Torrid that I managed to buy back in October for only $6! Even though both of these pieces are from spring collections, the ivory and turquoise palate simply said winter snow to me. 20161203_160731-2

So whether you’re looking to add to your closet or even find some nice presents for your BFF,  I figured it would be great to share some of the many Black Friday sales you should really look out for this weekend. In this list I’m also sharing some of my current favorites that I think are worth your consideration as you shop.
