NYC Blogger Boo Staycation: Day 2 Recap

While day one  of our NYC staycation was a day of touring and entertainment, day two was more about relaxing before we tackled a new week. This called for brunch at Alice’s Tea Cup and a spa day at Premier 57 Spa.

Fabiola, me, Nanthale, Marcy, Jonquel and Brooke after brunch at Alice’s Tea Cup Chapter II.

NYC Blogger Boo Staycation: Day 1 Recap

Since starting this blog 3 years ago I have been very blessed to meet some pretty awesome people including fellow bloggers and models. As influencers we do get the chance to spend time together at events, however rarely does that leave us much time for much of anything else so I was excited when stylist and blogger, Nanthale of N.E.C. Style, getting inspiration from the newly released film, Girls Trip, came up with the idea of a staycation.

We decided to take advantage of just a bit of what the city we call home has to offer, creating a weekend itinerary of activities for ourselves and set off to have a great time.  Our group consisted of model and blogger, Brooke of Madame FinehouseFabiola of Fabiola Michelle, body positive fashion illustrator, Jonquel of Jonquel Art , Marcy of Fearlessly Just Me and of course, Nanthale. It was a great change of pace to just enjoy each others company for a full weekend even more so since the weekend we chose even fell in line with Marcy’s birthday.

Bold Colors & Prints

Just a quick glance through many of my outfit posts one immediately notices that I have a strong and committed relationship with the color black – particularly NYC-black.  Part of this is just a left over from my high school goth days, but the truth is that bright hues make me nervous. It draws immediate attention and for a recovering wallflower that can be pretty unnerving. However,  even with those feelings I think fashion calls for challenging yourself, like I did with this bold African print mini skirt.*I got this skirt at the Curvy Expo during Full Figured Fashion Week this past June from the Obioma fashion booth and I was so excited about this new statement piece that I wore it a little more than two weeks after. I remember the face of my best friend when I descended the stairs to meet her and her hubby at her car to head over to Brooklyn for Curl Fest. They both were stunned to not only see me  forgo black but to go for something so bright.  I’m still not used to getting compliments but I think I can get used to being greeted with, “You look gorgeous.”

Spring Into Summer Refresh

With Spring  finally breaking through what felt like the longest winter ever (not that I am complaining because I actually love the cold),  I have also gone through some changes. For one thing  I finally got my hair cut  after putting it off for a good eight months, even going so far as to get it cut shorter than last year with a brighter shade of red as a highlight accent. As someone who has always had long hair its been quite the adjustment, but I figure its a new year and a new season so I might as well go all in. Warmer temps and new hair got me in a bit of a shopping frenzy, however in an effort to stay on budget, I have made sure that at least some of my new wardrobe additions actually work to refresh some of my favorite pieces that I currently own and challenging myself even more with different kind of looks that I never would have put together before.

A Day With Mom Featuring ELOQUII

When it comes to celebrating Mother’s Day my family tends to celebrate on Saturday instead so that  we can avoid the Sunday crowds and so that my mother can actually use Mother’s Day as a day for her to relax at home. This year, our celebrations were a bit of a washout given the pouring rain that came from the weekend’s Nor’Easter storm. Anyone else would have wanted to call our plans off but my mother wouldn’t hear of it. As far as she was concerned, it was her day and she had new clothes that had to be shown off. So we got dressed and went ahead with our plans. I promised my mother that I wouldn’t interrupt the festivities with my blogging (her words, not mine) so I didn’t. However I did manage to convince her to do a mini shoot before the Uber came to get us.
