My Little Black Sustainable Dress

When it comes to sustainable fashion, plus size options are definitely hard to come by. Especially affordable plus size sustainable fashion. Until very recently it wasn’t an option for me simply because I was priced out given my limited budget. Even still, I do my best to be as sustainable as I can with my fashion choices – going so far as making sure to donate as many pieces as possible when clearing out my closet twice a year as well as repeating and remixing outfits which with this new digital age in which everything is documented on social media, is a big “no no.”

The one thing I will admit to being difficult is keeping away from fast fashion. For one thing, companies like SHEIN have managed to give plus size people more style options than any other brand I can think of. From sexier silhouettes to simply replicating straight size options in larger sizes (without additional embellishments like sequins) which many of us have been asking for the longest time, and all at a lower price that makes it obtainable for those of use looking for more affordable plus size clothing options. My Time In The Spotlight

During my trip to Baltimore last month, Brooke took me to an interactive content creation space. Located in Towson Town Center, The Spotlight has a total of 25 custom-made backgrounds complete with props, a phone compatible ring light and a Bluetooth operated shutter. From what I gathered, they just opened this location over the summer yet have no doubt that they will be growing out of where they are very soon once word gets out.

BlerDCon 2021

After a year of no concerts or nerd conventions, and armed with both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, my best friend, Brooke and I made the trek to Arlington, VA for the fourth annual BlerDCon.* (Now with vaccination and mask mandates for your safety!)

I actually didn’t know that BlerDCon was a thing until Brooke kidnapped me back in 2019 in order to attend and I had a blast. It is hands down the best con I’ve ever attended, though I only have 10 years of New York Comic Con and 1 year of Anime NYC to compare it to. While our first year at BlerDCon was amazing (we only got to stay for 18 hours out of the 3 days), this year we took it up a notch,  as this was the year of the Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune “couple cosplay.”

Silver and Gold Christmas in the City

As you can tell I love holidays, Halloween and Christmas especially, and I consider myself lucky that I’m able to celebrate in NYC as we tend to go hard here for both. The lights, the decor, the holiday themed food – it all is truly amazing this time of year in NYC.In the past I would spend most of my evenings after work walking around, taking in the holiday sights while doing some my Christmas shopping in stores and in person. This year has been much different, with my holiday prep taking on the form of strictly online shopping as well as cleaning and decorating my apartment. This wasn’t at all as boring as I originally expected as I’ve even managed to do bring in more decor than I ever have which has definitely helped me get out of a depressive stupor.  Continue reading

Dressed to Chill

When it comes to spending the holidays at home, with just my immediate family, I tend to go for something simple. Not because the occasion isn’t special, but since most of my relatives actually live in Panama we really don’t go all out like most other (Latinx) families do. We keep things pretty low key, unless we invite some friends over, and this year was no different.

Just sitting around reading a book and drinking tea until it was time to cook.

This is why I went with complete comfort over style with this year’s Thanksgiving outfit – just a cute knit sweater and leggings.  I am currently obsessed with this plum/grape shade of purple and Torrid seems to be the one place that actually has anything in this color in my size so this drop shoulder cable knit tunic-length sweater was at the top of my “must buy” list as soon as I saw it online. Other than the color,  I really love the strappy lace up front detail that brings some sass to what would otherwise be considered a fumpy top. Unfortunately this sweater is sold out in this color but the style is still available in black in limited sizes.
