Silver and Gold Christmas in the City

As you can tell I love holidays, Halloween and Christmas especially, and I consider myself lucky that I’m able to celebrate in NYC as we tend to go hard here for both. The lights, the decor, the holiday themed food – it all is truly amazing this time of year in NYC.In the past I would spend most of my evenings after work walking around, taking in the holiday sights while doing some my Christmas shopping in stores and in person. This year has been much different, with my holiday prep taking on the form of strictly online shopping as well as cleaning and decorating my apartment. This wasn’t at all as boring as I originally expected as I’ve even managed to do bring in more decor than I ever have which has definitely helped me get out of a depressive stupor. At the same time, I’ve turned my sights towards more holiday fashion. I first started looking at options back in October which is when I found this velvet skater skirt. While I’ve been practically obsessing over the colors red and plum, I figured I should throw some emerald green in the mix too. It is too cute and it had pockets!  (Perfect for keeping my mask close at all time.)In anticipation of the upcoming winter solstice,  I decided to pair the skirt with this snowflake print turtleneck. The print does have glitter for shine, inspired me to add on this rhinestone headband and snowflake metallic belt. I was scared that these would all be a bit too much when put together, yet I was pleasantly surprised by how fun it all was. As corny as it sounds kind of felt like I was on my way to some secret fun holiday gathering walking around the city like this. The feeling was reminiscent of “holiday seasons past” and turns out I was in good company with this idea as the holiday market at Bryant Park had a much of people dressed in similar statement-making holiday attire.

Also can I just say that the fact that I can walk around NYC with just a leather jacket for warmth in mid- December is totally a sign that global warming is real. This is also the third year in a row that I’ve been able to do so which is quite troubling in my opinion. To be fair, I always love an excuse to throw on this jacket to complete a look, so I guess there are some perks.

Rhinestone-Embellished Headband | Forever 21
Snowflake Mock Neck Top (Size 14/16) | Avenue
Green Velvet Skater Skirt (Size 1) | HOTTOPIC*
I Like Your Accent Snowflake Stretch Belt (Plus) | Modcloth (sold out, similar here)
Cropped Faux Leather Jacket |  Lane Bryant (old, similar here)

*Style note: I did wear a mini petticoat under this skirt so that it would flare a bit more.

However you decide to spend the holidays this year, please stay safe, wear a mask and consider having your celebrations virtually.  I’m currently planning some virtual “happy hours” (quotation marks because I don’t drink) with my friends which is obviously not how we planned to celebrate with each other but, honestly this is a better than the alternative of not seeing each other so there’s that. Would you like to see some virtual happy hour mocktail recipes in my next post?
