The Roaring ’20s (and 30s)

Like most people (I like to think that I’m not the only one that does this) I make grandiose goals for myself. Its not even something I do at the start of a new year as a resolution, but just in general as a way to motivate me. So I struggle whenever I don’t meet the expectations I set for myself.  It is very unlikely that I will stop this habit any time soon, yet even with the challenges thrown my way and my disappointments (of which there were MANY in 2019), I took the time to celebrate the small victories I had in the decade that was my twenties.

Given my history with anxiety, depression and suicidal idealization (all of which are topics that I hope to cover on here soon), I never expected to even make it to my current age, let alone enter another decade of life. And that’s what makes 2020 and turning thirty so frightening to me.

Even so, I have a whole new set of goals in mind for this year and the rest of this new decade. I figure sharing some of them will help keep me honest and maybe motivate anyone that may be starting the year off on a bit of a low point to look at what comes next as chance for self-growth and greater adventures. It’s Sweater(Dress)Weather!

The  temperature in NYC has finally begun to drop and I’m super excited because this means I finally get a chance to wear some of my favorite (cozy)pieces from my closet – my sweater dresses!  A sweater dress is an essential fall/winter season piece to have as it is the easiest way be chic and warm. I recently purchased this striped sweater dress over the summer at Charming Charlie during their closing out sale for only $12 (It was originally $42, always shop out of season for great deals!) and I have been looking forward to wearing it ever since. Because of the print and the bow details on the bell sleeves, I just added a simple scarf that matched the pink stripe, ankle booties and a jewel-toned lip color.

And just in case you’re in the market for a new sweater dress this season,  be sure to check out my list of favorites below. Everything on the list is less than $40 (not including shipping. Be sure to jump on these soon as a few are even marked lower due to it being Cyber Monday today.   Happy shopping!

A Weekend in Witch City

I can finally cross something off my bucket list because I got to Salem, MA over the Columbus Day Weekend.  The only downside was that a family emergency came up so we were only able to stay one night instead of the original 3 days of sight-seeing, museum hopping and some light shopping I had planned, however, we still managed to cram as much as we could into the few hours that we had.

This is a trip that I’ve been wanting to do for a while and I am so happy that I even managed to go so during Halloween (aka the entire month of October), all the while looking my “bruja(witch)-best” in pieces from Torrid.  Here are some highlights from the trip. Sure, the (official) spooky season may be coming to an end but there’s no time limit on travel and fashion inspo, right?

*This is a post sponsored by Torrid and features gifted product I selected.*

theCURVYcon 2019 Recap

This post is super late but hopefully worth the wait. My original plan was to edit a video of clips I took at theCURVYcon this year instead of a written post but my computer had other ideas so here we are, haha. That said, I’ve got to say that Cece and Chastity weren’t kidding when they said that the theme for the 5th annual theCURVYcon was homecoming. From the decorations, the themed after party to the warm reunions we all had with other curvy ladies that traveled for this major fashion event. Continue reading

My Summer 2019 Favorites

Though I have been MIA on the blog this summer, that hasn’t really stopped me from doing some shopping and trying some new things in hopes that I would be back here to report on it. Sure this is Labor Day weekend which is an unofficial sign that summer is coming to an end, yet there is a chance you may be able to shop some of these on sale to stock up for next summer.

1. Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen For Face & Body

After the horrible summer burn of 2017, I’ve learned the hard way that my melanin alone will not protect me from the harsh rays of the sun. Yes, you would think that would be obvious but I honestly for may people of color it is not. So I asked my friend, the make-up and skincare maven, Stephanie, to help me find a product that I could use for both everyday and for the beach. During a trip to Sephora, she highly recommended I try Supergoop! and I’m glad that I took her advice. This sunscreen is non-greasy as well as sweat, and waterproof.  It also very light and doesn’t leave any white residue making it great to use under your makeup.
