Memorial day is right around the corner and while it marks a very solemn holiday, it is also the unofficial start to summer. This year I decided to welcome the season by embracing this purely American occasion of remembrance by dressing with pieces in our national colors. If anything it gave me an excuse to finally style this red plaid romper I received as a birthday present from my younger brother. This piece is made of a lightweight cotton for a very cool and casual outfit, perfect for a memorial day family picnic at the beach or park.
Style Notes: I am wearing a straight size XL but this is also available in plus sizes which I have linked to below.
I should note that even on my petite frame, the shorts reach a bit over the knee, which is shorter than I am used to as I usually wear bermuda shorts, yet warmer weather means showing some leg, so why not some thigh? I styled it with an embellished jean jacket I got last month at the Ashley Stewart sample sale and these new stretch gladiator sandals from Lane Bryant. The jacket is for that summer evening chill as this romper is sleeveless with adjustable straps, yet the medium wash of the denim brought in the blue for this Americana inspired look.

Do you have any memorial day weekend plans? I don’t have any plans as of yet, though I hope there is a barbecue somewhere in my future.
