Full Figured Fashion week started this past Sunday and I couldn’t be any more excited. This is my first year attending some events and while I didn’t get the chance to go to some of the signature ones, I will be recapping my experience on the blog up until this weekend a.k.a. The Curvy Con!
Day 1- Redefining Healthy Panel
This afternoon event hosted by Darlene of Suits, Heels and Curves, was so inspiring and empowering that I can’t even put to words. The workshop with its panel, conversation circle, makeup tutorial and Vixen workout covered the importance of self love, mental health, claiming your sexy, cultivating your style, and putting your best face on; all stressing that size does not determine your worth, beauty or your health. #iamredefininghealthy from here on out.

Amber from Style Plus Curves with our Vixen Workout instructors for the day.
At the end Darlene announced that next year’s “Redefining Healthy” event won’t be a workshop but a full fledged conference in March 2017. If this was just a taste of what is to come I have a feeling that it is going to be amazing. To stay up to date on this movement, check out iamredefinitinghealthy.com and share the accompanying video with others so that it can spread as much as possible.
My outfit for this event was all about comfort due to the rising summer-like temps here in the city. It turned out to be the best move as the energy level in the room was so high, it was hard to keep cool.

Day 2*- Avenue’s Feel the Love Blogger Brunch
One of the very first plus size brands I was introduced to was Avenue when I was 15. Granted I was much younger than their target audience but with their graphic tee collection and accessories I managed to cultivate some kind of style as a teen. Needless to say I was super excited to be invited to this brunch. Besides getting the chance to hang and chat with fellow bloggers, I got a chance to check out some of the new pieces coming out this fall and they are incredible. I was just starting to enjoy the warm weather, but now I want it too cool down just so I can wear some sweater dresses and boots. Haha!

Amanda Montgomery of Latest Wrinkle.

Angelica Renee of Affordable Curve! We practically squealed in delight when we met.

And of course the lovely Nicole from Curves on a Budget. Yes I fangirled and I not ashamed to admit that. She’s awesome.
Having a super thin wallet should never hold anyone back from slaying with the best of them. One of the best practices I have found is combining low end with high end pieces to create an awesome look; even better is when you manage to score high end pieces for great prices. For example, for this brunch I dressed up a Forever 21+ chambray fit & flare dress with this lace crop top I got at the Pop Up Plus NY sample sale two summers ago. The top usually retails for $89, but I managed to only pay $40 at the pop up shop. (Pop up shops and sample sales are great for steals and deals when you are on a budget like me.) This was an outfit I threw together because my original event outfit just didn’t do it for me, but it was clearly the right choice as I got so many compliments from my fellow bloggers as well as from strangers as I commuted to and from the brunch.
