When it comes to shopping for plus size Halloween costumes can be kind of tricky without many treats to be found. I honestly can’t even remember the last time I got myself a store-bought Halloween costume. As much as I love Halloween and dressing up in costume, I tend to just work with what I have in my closet that or I ask a family member that can sew to make me somethings if I can’t find pieces I need. The same goes for my cosplay. So it was super fun to get a chance to try something else this year with this latest collab with online retailer – 3Wishes.
Halloween is just around the corner but don’t worry you still have some time to get a great a great look together and 3Wishes is definitely the place to check out if you’re in the market for a creative and unique costume in your size.
Disclaimer: Pieces were gifted for review, but opinions are my own.
Catch Me honey
Who doesn’t love Pikachu? The beloved Pokémon franchise mascot is one that actually should be included on any animated plus size representation lists as the original was actually pretty chubby, one could even say he was apple shaped, until he was slimmed down in later iterations of the show and the video game. Seriously, look it up. Anyway, even without that bit of obscure history, who wouldn’t want to dress up as this cutie for Halloween.
This costume kit only comes with the dress (the tail is attached in the back) and the cute headband ears that even have a small bow at the front. I think this is the perfect costume if you’re looking for an option that won’t have you sweating at your Halloween party given the fact that it is sleeveless.
What I love about the simple dress design of this costume is that I can play around with to cosplay at future conventions. Brooke and I are already discussing having one of our BlerDCon looks next year be Pikachu as she already owns a jumpsuit version. I figure I can also accessorize this a bit more to create my own take on the beloved character. For example, I added these fingerless gloves as I thought it would be fun to have a subtle nod to Ash, but I’m also thinking it would be cool to pull together a “Punk Pikachu” with some fishnets and high-top converse sneakers.
Big Bad Red
As much as I love being a Pokémon cutie, Halloween is definitely the time of year for some sexy dress-up fun. The Big Bad Red costume set includes features a layered skirt mini dress with red trim and a hook front closure, as well as a matching hooded lace cape and a wolf choker. This is really the costume set to get if you want to be sexy without it being too revealing.
I really LOVE this cape so much and will be incorporating it into my wardrobe in some way. I’m not sure how exactly but I know I will. The one thing I should mention though is that it is pretty long for me. I caught myself stepping on it a couple of times, usually I when I walked backwards. I’m 5′ 4″ , so if you’re petite like me, definitely keep this in mind before ordering this costume.
I’m still on the fence as to which costume will be the one to make the cut for this year but this one is definitely high on the contenders list. Though I’m thinking I should lean in more with the sexy vibes with my thigh high suede boots, some black lace tights and, of course, some killer makeup, sans glasses.
3Wishes carries costumes as well as some pretty sexy lingerie up to a size 5X, so if you’re in the market for either or both, definitely check them out. Also while some of their pieces are about $40 and up, don’t let the prices turn you away as they also provide 4 interest-free payment through the shop now/pay later app ZIP, formally quadpay.
A quick note about sizing: I requested both these costumes in a size 2X as I’m currently wearing size 16/18 in dresses. Unfortunately there isn’t a sizing chart on the 3Wishes website for their plus size costume options. However, for the most part it looks to be pretty true to size. For example, given the amount of stretch available with the Catch Me Honey costume I could have sized down and this was confirmed once I took a look at the sizing as listed on the costume wrapping which listed size 2X as being size 20-22. The Big Bad Red costume on the other hand was a better fit as the 2X fits sizes 16 to 20. Inconsistent sizing is nothing new in plus but its great to know that we at least have a few more options available for cute (and sexy) costumes.
