Even Flowers Need Water

The past few days have been very interesting weather wise in NYC. One day it is very humid, the next day it is cool, followed  by heavy thunder storms out of no where that dissipate to clear sunny skies. The bi-polar nature of this season so far has been very fitting as it matches my mood, which has been quite melancholy due to recent events.  The weather, coupled with my emotional state really made it real hard to “dress up” when I would  actually venture out  of the house,  especially when all I wanted do is stay in bed all day. Its funny how a shopping trip and an impulse buy can change your attitude.

Shopping Without Spending A Dime

With the move seven months ago I received the gift of the holy grail — a closet! I know for many people in the world this is nothing to be excited about, but for me this was the best thing to happen to me since learning how to manage my naturally curly hair. Having a closet has opened a world of organization that I could only simulate in my old apartment and has also given me a sense of financial and fashion accountability I really didn’t have before.

I’m a clothes hoarder. It’s a fact, which is why I can admit it so easily.  I have more clothes and shoes than I care to admit, due to my former habit of buying anything and everything that managed to fit my plus size frame. I have also kept most of my high school clothes which actually makes up the bulk of my wardrobe. It is worth noting that I have been out of high school for seven years now. Clearly I have lost track of what I was keeping and have to cut some ties with my past.

My Two Cents: Do we want good quality Plus Size fashion?

Currently its being argued that it is the shopping practices of plus size women that affects retailer supply to their customers.  I find this accusation to be ridiculous as you won’t ever hear this same argument within straight size fashion. Nevertheless, retailers and designers stand firm on this stating that their potential customers are just not interested in particular styles or even quality. Could this be true? Do we want good quality plus size fashion? Continue reading

The Big 2 – 5 (Part 2) : Eshakti Chambray

I took  advantage of the nice spring weather New York has been having this weekend to finally wear my first, and certainly not my last, purchase from eShakti. The current price tag attached to this dress is a tad on the expensive side, but I actually bought mine using the $40 gift coupon while the site was hosting a sale by which time the dress was marked down to $62 so this dress was a steal!  Though I fell in love with the dress as is online, I had the dress customized to knee length which turned out to be perfect.  I am petite (last time I checked I am 5’3”) so the maxi dress trend isn’t one I can really embrace for obvious reasons. The Big 2 – 5 (Part 1)

So this weekend I turn 25 and  I figured it would be fitting to have some fun with my pre-birthday church outfit. For a while now I have been on the hunt for a white top for a “en blanc” event this month and found this body suit from Fashion to Figure. Since its ivory it doesn’t fit the bill for that event but I bought it anyway because I loved the style and fit. This is the first time I have ever worn a body suit and I can say that having tried it, I will definitely be wearing another one very soon. (I can’t begin to explain how comfortable and stylish this piece is!) Continue reading
