ELOQUII 2017 Swimwear Collection Impressions

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the ELOQUII Swim Party celebrating the launch of their first swimwear collection. With a beach themed photo booth, lip stick bar and awesome food it was a fun night that I got to spend with fellow blogger and ELOQUII fans a like. We were all given the chance to shop the suits in person and I have to say that it was truly the most positive swim suit shopping experience I’ve ever had. Each time someone came out of the fitting room everyone cheered as they slayed in front of the photo booth camera  and encouraged them to try on even more pieces.  Continue reading

Inside the Dressing Room: Victoria Beckham X Target Review

So this past Sunday was the release of yet another of Targets designer capsule collection, this time by Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice from the Spice Girls. I’ll admit that while I am a 90’s kid I was never was into the Spice Girls so the excitement that most of my friends went through but with all of the hype on social media about the designs also being launched in plus I just had to check it out for myself at my local Target. I only had access to a couple of pieces that survived the initial launch on Sunday and you can check out my thoughts below. Continue reading

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Fashion Favorites

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been doing a great job in keeping track of much of anything since the beginning of this year as I have yet to find an appointment book/planner for 2017. This is why the fact that we are already in February went completely unnoticed by me until my brother mentioned it in passing this past week. So as you can expect I am just getting around to checking out some Valentine’s day fashion for this year and while I have yet to decide what I will be wearing  I thought I should share some of the pieces that I am really loving at the moment. Whether you are still looking for something to wear, or just looking to add a V-day twist to an outfit you already have, this list has got it covered at an affordable price range.  Happy shopping!

Making Straight Sizes Werk

20170116_144945-2

Shopping in general can be a very frustrating and draining experience, even more so when you attempt to do so in the straight sizes, however it doesn’t have to be. I think the key to shopping the straight size section is really not getting too focused on size. What I mean is, if you find something you like, try it on. If it fits, go for it and make it werk! But if it doesn’t fit, it really isn’t the end of the world, after all that is where the fun begins. When I find something I really like in the straight sizes that doesn’t fit I start to look into how I can recreate it. Sometimes that means getting creative with separates to recreate a dress or focusing my shopping efforts to find something very similar in retailers that carry my size. And I should note that I do the same thing for plus size pieces that I can’t afford. In fact, I have found that this shopping tactic helps keep my spending in check as I only spend what funds I have on something specific rather than being solely driven by impulse, which is not to say that doesn’t happen; as was the case with this statement top. Naturally Curly Hair Winter Straightening Tips

Thanks to my mother I have been natural my entire life. I only got around to experimenting  with me hair once I got into college,  mostly out of necessity as I could no longer sport the two pigtail braids that were my signature back in high school. Yet it would be some time until I could actually figure out how to properly care for my natural curls without twisting them and in the process I began to try something new by straightening my hair via heat styling.
curls-and-straight-hairFast forward to the present and I really only ever straighten my hair during the  late fall/winter and sometimes into early spring. Why? Well, to  be honest  I do love my curls and make a point to try to challenge western hair standards, however, I’m a very lazy natural. In order to get my natural coils looking fresh and defined,  it takes at least 7-8 hours of work and waiting (I air dry my hair).  That’s practically a full day of work! For straightening it can clock in at 2- 3 hours max, which is still a lot, but I still get time to do other things.  Not only that but I can get my hair done in the evening once I get home from work and this is  something I can’t do with my curls because they don’t set and dry that quick. So more often than not, my decision to straighten my hair is in response to my hectic schedule, which usually does not have room for a lengthy hair day, OR I have a job interview (Note: That is a topic for another time.) That said, with today marking the official start to  winter  I felt it would be beneficial to share a few tricks and products I’ve picked up that have helped keep my hair healthy in the winter when using heat styling.
