One of the things I had planed for Halloween content this year was a series of closet cosplay and some vampire-inspired fashion. Unfortunately, the pandemic caused major delays in shipping  and most of the items I bought actually wouldn’t make it to me in time for Spooky Season.

So my plans shifted a bit and I decided to still style some looks based on an entirely different theme – Disney! As a 90s kid, obviously I’m a major Disney fan, particularly of their animated features and I thought this would be a great way to have some fun with fashion and fandom. I challenged myself to style these two outfits with items I already own so I’ve made a point to include links to similar products just in case you wish to recreate either look this Halloween or just for cosplay at a later date. Snow White

This first look is a recreation of a costume I once owned which is what inspired me to do this project to begin with. Snow White is one of the first Disney films I recall ever watching as a child and I loved it enough to ask my mother to get me the costume to wear when I was 5 years old. My father even organized a photo shoot session in our house, complete with a plain blanket backdrop,  that year for me to model the costume. I remember just having so much fun being a princess for a day and wanting to look perfect.

Clearly not much has changed in the 25 years since, hahaha.

Summer Noir (feat. Foxblood)

It is rare for me to have a moment when I see something and think to myself that “I must have this” and immediately buy it without much of a second thought, but it when it does happen its probably because  Foxblood dropped something new on their site.  (Even if it is something that I have to purchase via Afterpay, I make it mine.)   The minute I saw this wide leg, tie top jumpsuit as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I gagged.  It is everything I’ve ever wanted in a summer outfit that I didn’t even have to look for.

Boho Summer Dress Fun

I’ll be honest, once this lockdown period started I immediately stopped shopping for anything non-essential. Part of this was due to the uncertain financial situation but it also was because I wasn’t sure when I would be going out again. I went into my apartment in mid-March, during which I was still wearing turtle necks under my coat, and by the time I stated to go outside I had missed spring entirely. Not that I’m complaining too much about that because I actually got to have one spring without having to suffer through terrible allergy attacks.Anyways, being home has given me a chance to purge my closet (again) and style some old summer pieces in new ways as well as find any “style gapes” I may have. When it comes to summer fashion my closet is seriously lacking because I’m not a fan of this season (the humidity is no joke in NYC), so I don’t  give summer fashion much thought beyond bathing suits which says a lot about my priorities, hahaha.  Continue reading →

Five Petite-Plus Tips for Shopping Maxi Dresses

According to my doctor I’m 5ft 2in and a half which I typically round up to 5ft 3in since I know I tend to slouch…a lot. Either way its very clear that I’m a “fun-sized package,” a petite plus babe. (I have a younger brother that is just  an inch shy of 6 ft so at least one of us lucked out genetically.) The reason why I mention this is because while some brands like ELOQUII, Torrid and most recently Universal Standard,  have finally made steps towards including petite plus options for their customers, the truth is shopping while being petite-plus is still a major challenge.And then we have the spring/summer staple – the maxi dress. I admit that I once used to eye these pieces in the store with such disdain. For one thing many of these dresses are longer than some of the tall women I even know,  so I figured that those kinds of dresses would do nothing for me other than drown and/or trip me in fabric. This changed once  I requested a maxi to be included in one of my Dia style boxes.  I’ve since become a fan of maxi dresses mostly because I don’t have to worry about the dress flying up à la Marilyn Monroe especially when commuting on the subway. There is such an elegant ease to this piece that I feel many petite plus babes, including myself, sometimes miss out on because of our height, yet not all is lost!

A Blue Christmas

Its no secret that I love this time of year. The weather, the lights, the food, and now the parties. I love it all and it tends to make me smile for no reason other than it is Christmastime. Yet this year marks the first time that I’ve been unmotivated to take part in many, if any, festivities. Even gift shopping has felt more like a chore than a joy. I believe that part of this is linked to my depression and anxiety, however with the end of the year fast approaching, I have taken time to do some major introspection that has only worked to further dampen my mood.

I’m an overachiever and a workaholic so its not really surprising that I am disappointed by how short my personal list of supposed accomplishments for this year seems to be.  My negative feelings were felt among my coworkers and friends who made a point to check on me abd cheer me up the best they could. Then came the news of our office holiday party and that caused a buzz as everyone went about prepping for it.
