It may be because I’ve been re-reading old chapters of Lore Olympus on Webtoon, but when it came to thinking about Valentine’s day this year the only thing that would come to mind is Persephone. For those of your who may be able unfamiliar with Classical Mythology, Persephone is known to be a Goddess of adaptation being that she is both the Goddess of Spring and, due to her marriage to Hades, Queen of the Underworld. So with her contradictory nature and role, we have the light and feminine along with the dark and edgy, all in one.
For me this train of thought wasn’t about recreating a look from the aforementioned webcomic (though I really want to for Comic Con one day), but rather give myself a chance to be “extra” just for the hell of it which doesn’t happen too often.

She’s All Hat
When it comes to listing basics that everyone should have in their closet, I feel like hats get thrown to the wayside. Which is kind of sad considering how it’s a versatile accessory that not only can keep your head warm on those cold days, but also makes a statement in a subtle way. And yes, I find it funny how I’m saying this considering the fact that I was not much of a hat person to begin with. Of course this changed once I got my halo fedora and my wide brim floppy sun hat, both of which I primarily wear for fashion not for function.
So as you can expect I was super excited to get this new hat from Tenth Street Hats for review. Sure this new wool crown hat is my fourth black hat in my growing collection, yet there is nothing wrong with having more than one nice stylish hat, especially one like this that doesn’t block people’s view should anyone be sitting behind me.

It’s Sweater(Dress)Weather!
The temperature in NYC has finally begun to drop and I’m super excited because this means I finally get a chance to wear some of my favorite (cozy)pieces from my closet – my sweater dresses! A sweater dress is an essential fall/winter season piece to have as it is the easiest way be chic and warm. I recently purchased this striped sweater dress over the summer at Charming Charlie during their closing out sale for only $12 (It was originally $42, always shop out of season for great deals!) and I have been looking forward to wearing it ever since. Because of the print and the bow details on the bell sleeves, I just added a simple scarf that matched the pink stripe, ankle booties and a jewel-toned lip color.
And just in case you’re in the market for a new sweater dress this season, be sure to check out my list of favorites below. Everything on the list is less than $40 (not including shipping. Be sure to jump on these soon as a few are even marked lower due to it being Cyber Monday today. Happy shopping!
theCURVYcon 2019 Recap
This post is super late but hopefully worth the wait. My original plan was to edit a video of clips I took at theCURVYcon this year instead of a written post but my computer had other ideas so here we are, haha. That said, I’ve got to say that Cece and Chastity weren’t kidding when they said that the theme for the 5th annual theCURVYcon was homecoming. From the decorations, the themed after party to the warm reunions we all had with other curvy ladies that traveled for this major fashion event. Continue reading
Su-Style Expo 2019 Recap
First I just want to apologize for taking so long to post again. I’ve been in the midst of some personal hardships that I’m actually still working through, but I am determined to finish what I started. So I’m back and actively working on some new projects that I’m very excited to share so stay tuned for that.
Currently I’m also in the process of outfit planning for theCURVYcon next month and it reminded me that I hadn’t had the chance to share about my experience at the last great fashion event I had the pleasure to attend. As I recounted in my post back in June, as a birthday present to myself, I traveled down to Puerto Rico for the Su-Style Expo. Created by blogger, Suzanne Ujaque, the Su-Style Expo is the premier Latino plus size fashion event in Puerto Rico.
Suzanne was the first international fashion blogger I started to follow soon after I launched this blog. I found her to be of interest because of how differently trends can be interpreted due to location and local beauty standards. Beauty stereotypes abound in Latino media in unique ways which in turn are reinforced by media found in the States. From never showing Afro-Latinos, like me, at all to depicting Indigenous Latinos only as service workers, all the while promoting one specific body type at all times. While there are a few of us Latino/a influencers in this space doing what we can to break these (harmful) beauty standards, Suzanne was the first (that I know of) that took it a step further by creating an event to help push her message of self and body love with a very unique approach.
