Boho Summer Dress Fun

I’ll be honest, once this lockdown period started I immediately stopped shopping for anything non-essential. Part of this was due to the uncertain financial situation but it also was because I wasn’t sure when I would be going out again. I went into my apartment in mid-March, during which I was still wearing turtle necks under my coat, and by the time I stated to go outside I had missed spring entirely. Not that I’m complaining too much about that because I actually got to have one spring without having to suffer through terrible allergy attacks.Anyways, being home has given me a chance to purge my closet (again) and style some old summer pieces in new ways as well as find any “style gapes” I may have. When it comes to summer fashion my closet is seriously lacking because I’m not a fan of this season (the humidity is no joke in NYC), so I don’t  give summer fashion much thought beyond bathing suits which says a lot about my priorities, hahaha.  Continue reading

Flawless Summer

Like most people I’ve spent most of quarantine in loungewear or pajamas, only reaching for a basic tee and jeans every once  in a while to do some grocery shopping nearby to stock the pantry for a week or two inside. So it was a nice and welcome change to play with some summer fashion this month, if only to give myself an excuse to dress up again even while being home.  I even got to wear one of these “new” outfits out and out with my best friend, Brooke, when we got to see each other again a few weeks ago.

It’s Sweater(Dress)Weather!

The  temperature in NYC has finally begun to drop and I’m super excited because this means I finally get a chance to wear some of my favorite (cozy)pieces from my closet – my sweater dresses!  A sweater dress is an essential fall/winter season piece to have as it is the easiest way be chic and warm. I recently purchased this striped sweater dress over the summer at Charming Charlie during their closing out sale for only $12 (It was originally $42, always shop out of season for great deals!) and I have been looking forward to wearing it ever since. Because of the print and the bow details on the bell sleeves, I just added a simple scarf that matched the pink stripe, ankle booties and a jewel-toned lip color.

And just in case you’re in the market for a new sweater dress this season,  be sure to check out my list of favorites below. Everything on the list is less than $40 (not including shipping. Be sure to jump on these soon as a few are even marked lower due to it being Cyber Monday today.   Happy shopping!

Five Petite-Plus Tips for Shopping Maxi Dresses

According to my doctor I’m 5ft 2in and a half which I typically round up to 5ft 3in since I know I tend to slouch…a lot. Either way its very clear that I’m a “fun-sized package,” a petite plus babe. (I have a younger brother that is just  an inch shy of 6 ft so at least one of us lucked out genetically.) The reason why I mention this is because while some brands like ELOQUII, Torrid and most recently Universal Standard,  have finally made steps towards including petite plus options for their customers, the truth is shopping while being petite-plus is still a major challenge. And then we have the spring/summer staple – the maxi dress. I admit that I once used to eye these pieces in the store with such disdain. For one thing many of these dresses are longer than some of the tall women I even know,  so I figured that those kinds of dresses would do nothing for me other than drown and/or trip me in fabric. This changed once  I requested a maxi to be included in one of my Dia style boxes.  I’ve since become a fan of maxi dresses mostly because I don’t have to worry about the dress flying up à la Marilyn Monroe especially when commuting on the subway. There is such an elegant ease to this piece that I feel many petite plus babes, including myself, sometimes miss out on because of our height, yet not all is lost!

Here are my tips for shopping maxi dresses and skirts, beyond the typical “wear heels/wedges” advice. Continue reading

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING GUIDE : EVERYDAY FANGIRL CHIC (PART 2)

Last week I shared with you my very first Christmas shopping guide that dealt with shopping for anime/manga fangirl and now this second list focuses more on Western fandoms, particularly animation, video games and comics, though I did include a couple live action films . Much like my first gift guide, some of the items listed are direct references to certain fandoms, with the rest being pieces that are much more subtle.  I’ve also included some commentary as how they can be used or styled for everyday use.  In an effort to remain budget friendly I made sure to list items that are  $60 and under, minus shipping though many retailers seem to now be offering free shipping due to holiday rush so that cost shouldn’t be as bad as it usually is. Happy shopping!
