One Sleeve Sweater Layering

When I sent the link of this sweater to my best friend she didn’t hold back about how much she hated the design. A one shoulder sweater? How does one wear this thing without being cold? Both quite valid questions considering how cold NYC weather can get, often without much warning.

The funny thing is that my first thought was that this was the perfect piece for some fun layering style. As cozy as chunky knit sweaters are, I find that layering help keep fall styles a bit more chic and interesting. After all why not add to your warmth and look good at the same time? And while, plus size sweaters with random cut-outs will forever be the bane of my existence (seriously, why are these still a thing?), pieces like this one from ELOQUII present a styling challenge that I will happily accept so here is how I did. Haunted Attractions

I LOVE Halloween and spooky season but I’m not a huge fan of haunted houses, as in the ones that involve costumed actors jumping from dark corners often armed with something like a knife, a hammer or worse, a chainsaw. I also dont really enjoy any slasher horror films that feature antagonists that inspire/influence the themes present on those performance-based haunted houses.

Vampires, werewolves, witches and actual ghosts are more my cup of tea. So I’l tend to decline invites to the aforementioned popular Halloween season pastime in favor of actual haunts. Living in New York gives me a greater access to such places as we have our fair share of haunted sites. Some are either still in regular use, be it as a museum or even as a restaurant, and others have since been abandoned and left behind as historic landmarked ruins.

3Wishes for Halloween

When it comes to shopping for plus size Halloween costumes can be kind of tricky without many treats to be found. I honestly can’t even remember the last time I got myself a store-bought Halloween costume. As much as I love Halloween and dressing up in costume, I tend to just work with what I have in my closet that or I ask a family member that can sew to make me somethings if I can’t find pieces I need. The same goes for my cosplay. So it was super fun to get a chance to try something else this year with this latest collab with online retailer – 3Wishes.

Halloween is just around the corner but don’t worry you still have some time to get a great a great look together and 3Wishes is definitely the place to check out if you’re in the market for a creative and unique costume in your size.

Disclaimer: Pieces were gifted for review, but opinions are my own.

A Pop of Culture

During the first couple of weeks of quarantine last year (in which time I was furloughed so I had A LOT of time on my hands) my mother and I spent most of our days working on different craft projects. The first week we baked and then for the next two all we did was sew. I made myself a denim shoulder bag out of an old pair of jeans, we fixed some dress and pant hems, we even made some new curtains for the living room out of fabric that had been in storage for years.

While in storage, my mother dug through some old boxes and also found a bunch of scraps of mola she had bought years ago on one of our trips to Panama  back when I was a kid. I think her intention was to create a vest or a small handbag but she never got around to it. More than 2 decades later, in which time she clearly forgot about it, she figured it was time to give it a fashionable purpose.

My Little Black Sustainable Dress

When it comes to sustainable fashion, plus size options are definitely hard to come by. Especially affordable plus size sustainable fashion. Until very recently it wasn’t an option for me simply because I was priced out given my limited budget. Even still, I do my best to be as sustainable as I can with my fashion choices – going so far as making sure to donate as many pieces as possible when clearing out my closet twice a year as well as repeating and remixing outfits which with this new digital age in which everything is documented on social media, is a big “no no.”

The one thing I will admit to being difficult is keeping away from fast fashion. For one thing, companies like SHEIN have managed to give plus size people more style options than any other brand I can think of. From sexier silhouettes to simply replicating straight size options in larger sizes (without additional embellishments like sequins) which many of us have been asking for the longest time, and all at a lower price that makes it obtainable for those of use looking for more affordable plus size clothing options.
